About

Public Art

Harambee Art Gallery and Community Artist Collective have partnered to establish a bike rack project, designed and developed by artist Charles Washington. This first bike rack installation was commissioned by the City of Houston Housing Authority. Houston is quickly becoming a city where bike riding is not just recreational but an alternative form of transportation.  This timely project makes creatively designed, art themed bike racks available on demand, to businesses and organizations throughout the city .  We love Public Art, especially when it’s functional!

Vision

Harambee Art Gallery was established to support, develop and promote artists and the creative arts.  The gallery hosts individual artist shows, group shows, classes and special events.  The gallery has two downtown locations, Houston, City Hall, the historical former Federal Reserve Bank building of the Houston Area Urban League and the SHAPE community center administration building, conveniently situated in the Museum District of Midtown, Houston We envision a global community of artists, businesses, schools, orgainizations and individuals that promote the creative use of recycled materials in the production of art; within a world where people everywhere reuse, recycle and reduce consumer waste to help maintain the health of the planet. Mission Our mission is to inform, entertain, educate and elevate through the advancement of the arts; to seek out, create and develop platforms for cultural communication; to provide a structural vehicle and support system for the creative expression and artistic growth of our member artists and to participate in and promote opportunities for intercultural collaboration.
